One of the things I want to learn if I am going out of town or out of the country is their culture and history. I am mostly visiting the museums and temples. Museums are number one historic place I ever want to put as my first list in my itinerary. This is where I see all the historical explanation of all stuff inside of it. There's a lot of things from very old to the new version which explain the history.
Every time I go to museums or temples, seriously, I am like a kid who wants to go to an amusement park or a kid who wants a candy. My eyes are in the glittering luster mode and my jaw is in jaw-dropping mode. I told you with matching jumping and clapping hands pa! LOL
Anyhow, let me share the only museum I visited when me and my fiance went to Bangkok, Thailand - The Jim Thompson House.
HOW TO GET TO THE JIM THOMPSON HOUSE FROM NANA:
1. Get to Nana station (BTS Skytrain Sukhumvit Line).
2. Buy your ticket from Nana station to Siam station.
3. From the Siam Station, go straight ahead to the end of Soi Kasemsan 2 - Jim Thompson House is on the left side.
OPENING HOURS:
9:00 AM - 6:00 PM (Monday to Sunday)
*** with the last Guided Tours at 6:00 PM
*** Compulsory guided tours around the house
ADMISSION FEE:
Adult - 150 Baht
Students (under 22 yo) - 100 Baht
It is located on Soi Kasemsan 2 Song, opposite the National Stadium on Rama I Road. It is conveniently reached by car, taxi, tuk tuk or BTS Train.
Oh! S̄wạs̄dī! (Hello there!) Local people said I am a Thai (local). Nooooooo, I am proud Filipina po! LOL
Sorry if there's no much photo of it because it is not allowed to take a photo inside the house, only outside of it. So, you better go there and see the history of it. *wink* And oh, it is also not allowed to wear shoes inside of it. There's a locker downstairs where you can put your shoes.
This is how they prepare the silk. They cooked it and get the piece of it by rolling in a rolling wooded.
The Jim Thompson House is the home of James H.W. Thompson, a self made American entrepreneur who was the founder of the world renowned Jim Thompson Thai Silk. He's in love with Thailand that's why he built this house and stayed in Thailand for nearly 22 years.
In 1967, Jim Thompson went on holiday with his friends to the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia. There he set out for a walk in the surrounding jungle but never returned and began the Jim Thompson legend.
There's a lot of extensive art and antique collections inside of the house. It is predominantly of Asian origin and can be broadly classified into 4 main categories: sculptures, paintings, porcelains and other collectible items like the Mouse House.
The best collections I saw is the porcelains and the Mouse House. There's a lot of porcelain plates and tea cups that made me WOW. Superb color and very alluring! And the Mouse House, it is where the white mice run that keep the children entertained for hours on end - in other word, it is their play toy before. I learned a lot about their history.
Different kind of silk they have.
